February 12, 1939 - September 17, 2021
Captain Ernest Wesley Sprinkle, Sr. answered the call and entered Heaven’s gates on the evening of September 17, 2021 at the age of 82. A visitation will be held at New Beginnings Baptist Church in Bayou LaBatre, AL on Wednesday, September 23, 2021 from 1–3 PM with the funeral service to follow at 3 PM. Interment will be held in Oddfellows Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Aaron, Lane, Drew, Troy, Jr. Chase and Brandon. Terry Taylor will be officiating. Wesley was a native of Dauphin Island and a lifelong resident of Grand Bay, Alabama. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Etola Sprinkle; son, Troy Sprinkle; granddaughter, Victoria Paige Sprinkle; sister, Viola Sprinkle; and brothers, John Gaspard and Avery Sprinkle. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 61 years, Helen Banks Sprinkle; sons, Wesley “Bubba” Sprinkle, Jr. and Buster Sprinkle; grandchildren, Drew, Emilee, Chase, Lane Tyler, Troy, Jr., Brandon, Aaron, and Courtney; great-grandchildren, Kayden and George; sister, Regina Johnson (Eugene); brother, Willie Ray Sprinkle; and a host of relatives and many, many friends. Wesley loved his life on the water. He made his livelihood shrimping, fishing, and oystering. He was the proud owner and captain of the shrimp boat, “Touchdown”. He had one of the biggest hearts, always sharing whatever he had, whether it was fruit off his many trees or maybe smoked mullet. Just a casual trip to the Bayou or Dauphin Island and a few throws of his cast net, someone enjoyed a mess of mullet. Yes, he will surely be missed!
