Daniel Cornelius Collins Jr., age 66, of Florence, Alabama passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022. Dan was often described by others as having a big heart. He was no-nonsense, funny (sometimes unintentionally), and loyal. Throughout his life, he enjoyed outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, and boating. His land in Pine Apple, AL was his favorite place to be and his family roots connecting him there were of the utmost importance to him. In his 40s, he started and owned his own business, a ship support service, in which he was very dedicated. In the last ten years of his life, he was active in recovery within the Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous programs - which positively changed the course of his life. Later in his life, one of his favorite things to do was spend time with his first grandchild, Amelia. She brought great joy to him and his intention was to move back to Mobile to be closer to her and his children. Born in Mobile, AL on November 28, 1955, he was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Frances Collins; and his sister, Elizabeth Reece. He is survived by his daughter, Amy (Jeremy) Roberts; son, Dylan Collins; former spouse, Ann Collins; sisters, Mary Jo (Charlie) Rigby and Susan Underwood; brother-in-law, Roger Reece; one grandchild, Amelia Roberts; nieces and nephews, Libby Welch, Mark Henderson, Chip Rigby, Gail Rigby, Phillip Underwood, Kyndra Hunter, Kevin Reece, Alan Reece, Jonathan Underwood, Nicholle Reece, Lindsey Sullivan, and Phillip Reece; other relatives, and friends. Visitation will be from 9-11 AM on Tuesday, June 7 at Serenity Funeral Home; 8691 Old Pascagoula Rd., Theodore, AL. Graveside service will be held in Serenity Memorial Gardens directly after.
